We are thrilled to attend this week's Housing 2024 conference in Manchester!

On Tuesday 25th June, our CEO Jeremy Porteus will present in two sessions: 'Specialist Housing: Designing Homes That Generations Thrive In' from 12:00pm to 1:00pm in the Future of Living Theatre (Charter 3), and 'Improving health through housing: Making integration work' from 2:00pm to 2:45pm as part of PfH Live.

Our Business Director, Ian Copeman, will also speak on 'The Role of Repurposing and Regenerating to Create Healthy New Homes and Places' from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in the Future of Living Theatre (Charter 3). And, on Wednesday 26th June, Jeremy Porteus will chair TSA's session on 'The Future of Housing: Helping people maintain the life they wish to lead in a place they call home' in Collabs Hubs (Charter 2) from 10:45am to 12:05pm.

We are also excited to host two invite-only roundtables: one with Invisible Creations on inclusive living, and another with Pozzoni on designing housing for an ageing population. We look forward to sharing the key takeaways in next week's news update!

Hospice UK reports that each year hospices care for 300,000 people annually with life-limiting conditions and offer bereavement support to 60,000 loved ones. With an ageing population, the demand for diverse hospice services is growing.

Supported by United St Saviour’s Charity, tomorrow's HAPPI Hour webinar features architect and author Ken Worpole discussing modern hospice design from his updated book, ‘Modern Hospice Design: The Architecture of Palliative and Social Care’.

We are delighted to be joined by United St Saviour’s who will share insights on their Appleby Blue project, and PRP Architects, National Housing Design Awards winners, who will discuss creating compassionate hospice environments.

Loneliness Awareness Week offers an opportunity to encourage everyone to increase those simple, everyday moments of connection that help us feel happier and less lonely.

Additionally, Carers Week, with this year's theme 'Putting Carers on the Map', aims to increase visibility for carers among decision-makers, services, employers, communities and businesses.

Last Friday, the Housing LIN's consultancy team visited various extra care housing and integrated retirement communities schemes in Bristol as an opportunity to gain valuable insights into the design, operation and resident experience of these innovative living environments.

A big thank you to Brunelcare for the tour of Waverley Gardens, featuring 128 self-contained apartments, including 20 exclusively available for shared ownership for the over 55s.

We were also delighted to visit Housing 21's Hillside Court, with its charming gardens offering beautiful views for residents.

Lastly, we stopped by Stoke Gifford Village, The ExtraCare Charitable Trust's retirement village, showcasing its Library, IT Suite, and Village Hall, all open to the public.

These visits highlighted the living options and amenities available to our ageing population, emphasising quality, comfort and inclusivity.

Last week, Housing LIN's CEO, Jeremy Porteus, had the pleasure of attending the formal opening of United St Saviour's Appleby Blue Almshouse, setting a new benchmark for the quality of social housing and services for older adults.

Designed by Stirling Prize-winning architects Witherford, Watson, and Mann, Appleby Blue is a new almshouse run by United St Saviour’s Charity. It offers beautiful, spacious homes in a vibrant community setting for people over 65.

Last week we had the pleasure of attending The Dunhill Medical Trust’s Annual Symposium! It was a fantastic opportunity to hear from some of the exciting initiatives they have been supporting over the last 12 months.

It was great to hear from Debra Edwards, TAPPI Co-production champion at Haringey Council, who gave an enlightening presentation on the recent TAPPI findings and tools.

We also heard updates on the Amar Bari Amar Jibon research project with Manik Gopinath at The Open University and Bashir Uddin at Bangla Housing Association. 

Their insights shed light on the importance of reflecting community voices in both research and practice, making their contributions truly valuable.

Kudos also to our CEO, Jeremy Porteus, for steering a dynamic panel discussion on planning for age-friendly communities using the 'Serious Game' methodology.

Engaging conversations with industry leaders like Vikki McCall at the University of Stirling, Rebekah Luff at Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and Alison Benzimra at United St Saviour's Charity.
