Speaking at the regional dignity road show in Barnsley on 21 July 2008, Ivan Lewis, Minister for Social Care at the Department of Health announced the 26 successful Extra Care Housing bids for the 2008-2010 £80m grant round. A grant totalling £76,498,265 was allocated to 26 authorities, and the balance as per the LAC(DH)(2010) (opens new window). The authorities with adult social care responsibilities include a mix of unitary and two-tier authorities.
Extra Care Housing Fund 2008-2010
The period for submitting bids to the Department of Health Extra Care Housing Fund started on 5 May 2008 and ended at midnight on 12 May 2008.
We have received 61 bids for a total funding requested of £189,685,227.
'Building on the success of its £147m capital spending from 2004 to 2008, and following the recent LA Circular setting out specific revenue and capital allocations for 2008-11, the Department of Health is adding a further £80m grant programme for extra care housing over the next 2 years, approx £40m per annum.'
