The Housing and Ageing Alliance is united in its response

Last week, the Housing and Ageing Alliance submitted its response to the Older People’s Housing Taskforce call for evidence and made a series of recommendations to improve the housing and living conditions of older people.

The HAA calls for the creation of a national older people’s housing strategy, better accessibility standards, more support for home adaptation, and strengthened planning guidance to increase the supply of specialist housing for older people. 

Parliamentary Select Committee launches Inquiry on Disabled People and the Housing Sector

The Levelling Up, Homes and Communities Committee launched an Inquiry on disabled people and the housing sector. It is accepting calls for evidence until 21 September 2023.

The Inquiry will examine the role of Government, local councils and developers in ensuring the delivery of suitable housing for disabled people and what the Government can do to support disabled tenants in the private rented sector in England.

The Older People's Housing Taskforce is Calling for Evidence

The Older People's Housing Taskforce is calling for evidence on what they should consider to further understand the market and needs for older people’s housing today, and to provide recommendations to ministers on how it can be shaped for the future.

This call for evidence forms part of a range of stakeholder engagement that will inform the deliberations, and eventual recommendations, of the Older People’s Housing Taskforce.

Live-in intergenerational programs combat loneliness, ageism, study finds

Researchers at the University of Sydney, Australia, recently published the results of a pilot study in the journal Aging & Mental Health about the effects and practicality of allied health students living at a residential aged care facility.

It found that live-in intergenerational programmes can help improve community well-being and resident resilience and combat ageist stereotypes.

Hidden renters: The unseen faces of the rising older rental wave

This Independent Age report explores the precarious reality of renting in later life. Their research shows that older renters are at a greater risk of facing poverty. Many have limited choices and live in unacceptable circumstances, fearing risk of eviction.
