Health and housing policy

Handyside Court, Derby

The White Paper 'Caring for Our Future: reforming care and support' provides a framework for health, social care and housing. Linked to this are new structures for commissioning health services via NHS England, Clinical Commissioning Groups, new responsibilities in public health for local government and outcome frameworks against which services will be evaluated.

As highlighted in the updated 2018 Health and Housing Memorandum of Understanding, this section covers key health policy and resources that are an essential guide to policy makers, commissioners and practitioners working at the interface of health and housing. To help you navigate content, it is split into two sub-headings as follows:

  • Policy framework - key documents that set out the national policies on health, describe key bodies with responsibility for local commissioning and relevant outcomes frameworks.
  • Local commissioning - resources about the practical application of policy in planning and commissioning services, such as Joint Strategic Needs Assessments, Health and Wellbeing Boards.
  • Local Housing, Health and Care MoUs - selection of examples of local housing, health and social care partnerships in England developing their local Memorandum of Understandings or equivalent documents.
