TAPPI Cast – 31 March 2023

On Monday and Tuesday, representatives from all TAPPI partners, including members of the TAPPI Co-production Champions Group, attended TSA’s annual conference ITEC23 (opens new window).

It was a great opportunity to spend time together and share TAPPI insights with an audience of over 1100 delegates. To coincide, we were delighted to publish the first four personal stories of our TAPPI Co-production Champions group – a group made of tenants and staff from our testbeds that makes sure the voice of later life housing tenants is at the heart of everything that TAPPI does, enabling TAPPI to be rooted in people’s lives and the reality of their experiences. Read these Stories.

On Thursday, the Dunhill Medical Trust (DMT) held their Annual Lectures online (opens new window) on the topic of 'creating age-friendly housing and communities together' and showcased the awards made under this theme, including the ongoing second phase of TAPPI. Roy Sandbach, TAPPI Chair presented on the findings from Phase 1 of the TAPPI Inquiry and how the principles are now being implemented in Phase 2. A recording of the session will be available in early April.

Updates from our Testbeds:

“Platform attended this year's ITEC Conference in Birmingham and have been blown away by the amazing TEC available to help people live safer, more independent lives. We've had insightful conversations with Technology Enabled Care providers from across the sector and look forward to working closely with them as Platform continues on its TEC journey.

The Conference also gave us the opportunity to meet with the TSA, Housing LIN, and the five other TAPPI Testbeds in person. It's been wonderful to hear how everyone is progressing, and we had the privilege of taking Harling Court's Resident TAPPI Champion Rosemary along with us to share her invaluable insight with others. You can now read 'Rosemary's Story' on the TAPPI microsite. Whilst there, we contributed to TAPPI partners Co-Production Works' workshop on the importance of co-producing the introduction of Technology Enabled Care.

A huge thank you to the TSA and ITEC's sponsors for putting together a fabulous two days, and for inviting Platform to be a part of it.”

Haringey were delighted to attend ITEC23 along with resident and Co-production Champion Debra Edwards who participated in the two TAPPI sessions. This coincided with the publication of her Personal Story in which she tells us how she feels about technology, why she wanted to get involved with TAPPI, what the barriers to using technology are and how she thinks these barriers can be overcome.

Haringey will be holding a Easter TAPPI event at Brookside House on Monday 3rd April, to thank residents taking part in the TAPPI project. Darshan Savani, TAPPI project manager at Haringey will be discussing and providing updates about the TAPPI project to residents.

Representatives from Wiltshire Council enjoyed their time at ITEC23 meeting with all TAPPI partners.

Our Evaluation and Shared Learning partners at Cambridge Centre for Housing & Planning Research visited Wiltshire's TAPPI Testbed Dairy View on Wednesday and spoke to residents, the scheme occupational therapist and the scheme manager about their tech experience.

Wiltshire are now working with the TAPPI comms team to capture the Personal Stories of their tenants and staff Champions, which we’re looking forward to sharing with you in due time.

Following their attendance and participation at the ITEC23 TAPPI sessions, which saw the launch of their co-production Champions Alice and Peter’s Personal Story, our Scottish testbed partners at Bield are holding an event for their tenants today (Friday, 31st March) at their new digital hub demonstration site at West Port, Linlithgow – tenants will have the opportunity to tour the brand new digital hub and try out some of the technology. They also be voting to choose the name of the hub from a list of suggestions submitted by Bield staff. We look forward to reporting on this event in next week’s TAPPI cast.

Technology-Enabled Lives: Delivering Outcomes for People and Providers

Over the past five months, the TEC Action Alliance (opens new window) has heard evidence from a range of people who draw on care, along with frontline workers and leaders in care, health, housing and local government.

Published by the TEC Action Alliance (opens new window) at ITEC23 on Monday, this new report examines barriers to widespread adoption.

To coincide with this report, TEC Action Alliance (opens new window) shared ‘A guide to getting started in co-production’ on why co-production must be integral to health and care, always the starting point, always defined by the individual who will receive the support to live a good life.

TAPPI Phase 2: New personal stories from TAPPI Champions

The second phase of TAPPI is committed to co-production. The approach we have designed is a Champions’ model. Each of the six TAPPI testbed sites nominated staff and tenants to join the Co-production Champions Group. There are 17 members of the Champions’ group, 9 tenants and 8 staff.

The Champions’ group makes sure that the voice of later life housing tenants is at the heart of everything that TAPPI does, enabling TAPPI to be rooted in people’s lives and the reality of their experiences.

The 4 personal stories collected here are the authentic voices of the Champions. The stories cover the positives and negatives of digital technology, peoples’ hopes and fears and highlight how technology can be both a blessing and a curse.
