With Christmas closely upon us, our final newsletter of the year starts with an exciting announcement!

In January 2024 registrations to the Housing LIN Summit - A Festival of Ideas open! Taking place virtually from Monday 26th February to Friday 1st March, our annual conference will bring together leading figures from the housing and care industries to share their ideas, innovation and inspiration. More on this to follow in the New Year!

This will be our last newsletter before the Christmas break, but we'll return Monday 8th January with all your housing, health and social care news. 

Here's what you can expect in today's newsletter:

Are you are our next Senior Data Analyst?

Do you, or someone you know, want to play a pivotal role in advancing innovative housing solutions for an ageing population and individuals with care or support needs?

As Senior Data Analyst, this role will work closely with members of our consultancy team to progress and undertake desk-based and field research and advisory services, and produce evidence-based reports and recommendations for our clients including local authorities, social and private sector housing providers, care/support providers, policy makers, commissioners and research funders.

Call for evidence by APPG Inquiry on the regeneration of outdated sheltered housing

The APPG Inquiry into Regeneration of Outdated Sheltered Housing has made a call for evidence about sheltered/retirement housing in the social and private sector including from a range of tenures, social rent, affordable rent, leasehold, sale and shared ownership.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, 9th February 2024. Please email this document to the Inquiry Secretariat at research@housinglin.org.uk

The Steering Board for TAPPI Phase 2 meets for the final time!

The final Steering Board meeting of The Dunhill Medical Trust-funded TAPPI Phase 2 project took place last week.

Chaired by Professor Roy Sandbach, the Board brought together a range of UK and international experts to reflect on the progress made over the last year and discuss the evolution of the TAPPI Principles. 

Inspiring Futures: Penultimate Meeting of the 2023 Future Leaders Programme

Kindly hosted by United St Saviour's Charity at Appleby Blue in Southwark, we were pleased to run the penultimate meeting of the 2023 Future Leaders Programme!

We heard from Martyn Craddock, CEO of United St Saviour’s Charity, who led a tour around the scheme. We were then delighted to hear from Kay Allen OBE, founder of Age Irrelevance, Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Coach, and Richard Humphries, Visiting Professor, University of Worcester and Senior Advisor, The Health Foundation who shared their leadership lessons and advice.

The Cost of Poor Housing in London: Housing Research Note 11

The Cost of Poor Housing in London COVER

This research by Greater London Authority Housing and Land estimates the annual cost to the NHS of homes in poor condition in London. It also estimates the cost of repairing all the homes in the capital that are in poor condition, calculating how long it would take the savings to pay off the cost of repairs.

Learning Disability England officially launches a new accessible housing guide

Developed as part of a project funded by NHS England in collaboration with the Housing LIN, Learning Disability England has launched a new accessible housing guide to help people with a learning disability and their families to think about where they want to live.

The guide can also help people to learn about their rights and choices. It can be used together with the support of family, friends, social workers or advisers, and it will be most useful to people who get paid support via the council.

Witherford Watson Mann draws on traditional almshouses for Appleby Blue senior housing

Local studio Witherford Watson Mann aimed to "set a new benchmark" for inner-city older people's accommodation with Appleby Blue, a social housing development in Southwark, London, for over-65s.

Designed for and managed by Housing LIN sponsor, United St Saviour's Charity, this article shares how this scheme challenges the typical idea of retreat and seclusion in older people's housing.

To coincide with HAPPI Awareness week (#HAPPIweek), this session will take a look back at the development of the 10 HAPPI design principles, championed by the Housing LIN, and consider how successful they have been in creating more accessible, age-friendly housing.
