News Highlights

Latest State of Ageing report from the Centre for Ageing Better

State of Ageing 2023-24 COVER

Using data from a variety of sources, the Centre for Ageing Better have produced their most detailed annual report yet, with their analysis showing that as a society, we have been far too slow to adapt to our ageing population, and are now playing catch-up, a situation exacerbated by the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis. This has manifested in huge inequalities and worsening circumstances for millions of older people.

Annual statistics show small percentage rises in specialist housing categories for Wales

The Welsh Government’s latest annual returns on social housing across all 22 councils in Wales, published this month, show that, since last year's return, there have been very small percentage increases of local authorities and housing associations owning sheltered housing, extra care housing and supported housing.

Join us for a 2hr virtual Symposium on 12 December where we'll be showcasing the work of Welsh members on the Housing LIN Cymru’s Steering Group. The session will provide a 'marketplace' of presentations by Steering Group members sharing the latest innovative housing for older people projects, developments and programmes under way in Wales.

Supported housing: report by House of Commons Committee of Public Accounts

Supported housing: PAC report COVER

A new report on supported housing from the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee (PAC) finds that vulnerable people are being left unprotected from unscrupulous providers and housed in poor-quality accommodation, with unsuitable or no additional support provided.

The report finds a sector riddled with long-standing challenges, with the Government’s actions to improve matters falling far short.

Creating Age-Friendly Developments

This Age-friendly urban development guide, launched by Manchester Metropolitan University, outlines how the region can adapt to an ageing population in designing and building new residential developments.

Ideas include intergenerational playgrounds, buddy benches, easier navigation for people with dementia and boosting a sense of security through design.
