The Welsh Government’s latest annual returns on social housing across all 22 councils in Wales (opens new window), published this month, show that, since last year's return, there have been very small percentage increases of local authorities and housing associations owning sheltered housing, extra care housing and supported housing.

Data published on 7 November 2023 indicates that councils and housing associations own 25,249 sheltered housing units (up 0.03%), 2,697 units of extra care housing (up 1.12%) and a further 4,900 units of supported housing (up 2.34%) in Wales (Welsh Government, 2023).
