HLINks: New HLIN blogs, new resources, and news and events from the specialist housing sector.

This week we published two new Housing LIN guest blogs about the changes we need to make to ensure that our ageing population is decently housed. We also have our usual roundup of news from the specialist housing and housing with care sectors.

Older people’s housing – creating a paradigm shift

Although the UK faces a significant increase in the proportion of older people in its population over the next quarter century, many people are reluctant to think about moving into specialist housing. At present only 1% of the population over the age of 65 are in specialist housing for older people.

In this Housing LIN guest blog Howard Phillips argues that we need to change people’s attitudes to specialist housing.

On the Move in Later Life: What can the English Housing Survey tell us?

In this blog Dr Dominic Aitken writes about what the English Housing Survey can tell us about changing trends in housing for older people. In particular the data shows an increasing number of older people who are privately renting.

Lichfield Later Living Survey

Commissioned by Lichfield District Council, we’re asking residents of Lichfield about their thoughts on housing and later living, as well as the suitability of existing housing, for older people. This work will inform council policy and future housing provision across Lichfield. If you’re interested in learning more about how the Housing LIN can help you to address these issues please email us at consultancy@housinglin.org.uk to find out more.

If you’re a resident of the Lichfield area and aged 60+ you can take part in the survey here:

Next Week

Next week we are publishing a new blog by Jill Stewart and Alison Docherty, looking at housing solutions in Scotland.

We are also delighted to have worked with the ULI on their new guide, which is being launched next week. We will have more about this in next week’s HLINks.
