Technology and digital infrastructure that support future care needs must be built into all new housing, leaders from a range of sectors have urged in a report by the TAPPI Inquiry.

Findings from the research undertaken by Appello, the UK’s leading digital, technology enabled care service (TECS) provider, and the Housing Learning and Improvement Network (HLIN) paints a promising picture for the future of digital care technologies.

Ground-breaking research into the impact of COVID-19 last year on retirement villages and extra care housing, undertaken by St Monica Trust in partnership with the Housing LIN and funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust, highlights how housing-with-care sector’s response to coronavirus pandemic benefitted residents.

This Inquiry report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Housing and Care for Older People, jointly written by the Housing LIN's co-dementia lead, Katey Twyford, and the Housing LIN’s CEO Jeremy Porteus, pulls together the evidence presented to the Inquiry's expert Panel, the research and analysis undertaken to understand the housing implications of people living with dementia and makes over 40 key policy and practice recommendations for dementia-readiness.

To better understand the effect of Covid-19 on the housing sector, the Housing LIN launched a survey back in the autumn of 2020 to identify and capture the impact and examples of home-based working during the first stages of the pandemic for their staff and residents, including older adults and disabled people.

This guidance, produced by the Housing LIN for the Local Government Association, supported by NHS England and NHS Improvement, is intended to assist commissioners to take evidence-based decisions about Specialised Supported Housing (SSH), particularly lease-based SSH, to help protect and promote the best interests of people with a learning disability and autistic people, and other people with support needs.

With COVID-19 shining a spotlight into the health and social care inequalities faced by people with a learning disability and/or autism, this important new report - jointly written by the Housing LIN and Learning Disability England (LDE) - outlines the key results from research conducted into the housing opportunities and blockages for people with a learning disability and/or autism.

This Housing LIN report sets out what is required to ensure there is sustainable development of supported housing for adults with long term care and support needs.

Written by Pozzoni Architecture and additional information supplied by RLB and CPC cost consultants, this new report, co-produced with the Housing LIN, aims to demonstrate that with careful consideration and the right tools, including useful new cost modelling, Extra Care will remain a viable and sustainable housing with care choice for residents, commissioners and funders, operators and developers.
