Welcome to #Jeremytalks and this week’s sector news from the Housing LIN, the last issue ahead of our summer news break.

This week we published a refresh of the Housing LIN factsheet on Interior Design (No34). Updated and written by Lori Pinkerton-Rolet, director of Park Grove Design, the factsheet was officially launched on Tuesday's HAPPI Hour with Motionspot's Ed Warner. The webinar recording and a copy of the presentation slides are now available here.

And hot off the press, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities have just published their response to consultation on raising accessibility standards for new homes. Read our response here

In other news, I am pleased to have been invited to be a judge on Inside Housing's UK Housing Awards . These prestigious awards are in their 26th year and have a number of categories including 'Best older people's landlord', celebrating a landlord who has played a vital part in providing housing and support to older people. Winners to be announced on Friday, 25 November 2022 at a lunchtime ceremony in Manchester.

Seniors Housing Development Update 2022

Seniors Housing Development Update 2022 cover

The report highlights how Integrated Retirement Communities (IRC) completions accounted for 51% of new seniors housing units built between 2011 and 2021, up from 36% over the previous 10-year period, with the remainder age-restricted retirement housing.

It also forecasts that the total number of specialist seniors housing units in the UK will grow by 8% over the next five years, taking the total size of the sector to just short of 820,000 units. This, and an increase in urban settlement, will continute to be driven by institutional investment

Government support for raising accessibility for new homes

Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities logo

The government have today published their long-awaited response to the consultation on raising accessibility standards for new homes. The 2020 consultation sought views on how to raise accessibility of new homes and put a number of options forward in relation to making amendments to Part M of the Building Regulations.

As a member of the HoME Coalition - calling for stronger rules on accessibility - the Housing LIN supported proposals for Part M4(2) as the minimum accessibility standard and as is delighted by the outcome of the consultation and the government's proposals to adopt Part M4(2) as a minimum standard.

TAPPI2: From Principles to Implementation - Weekly update

Co-production workshop screengrab

Co-production, one of the ten TAPPI principles, is about involving people to co-create solutions to inform how they want to live their lives.

On Wednesday, the TAPPI team (Housing LIN, TSA, The Dunhill Medial Trust and the Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research (CCHPR) at University of Cambridge) met with Co-Production Works, TAPPI's Co-Production and Engagement Partner, for the first of two training sessions on what co-production should look like and what implications this has for our role moving forward in the project.

We look forward to announcing the successful locality 'testbeds' (or demonstrator sites) in September's edition of HLINks.
