Extra care: meeting the needs of fit or frail older people

Written by the University of Swansea's Centre for Innovative Ageing for the South East Wales Improvement Centre, the recently published research looked into the integration and management of complex care in Wales across three areas:

  1. examining the quality of life and experience of older people
  2. seeking views of managers and social workers as to whether complex integrated social and health care be delivered, and
  3. exploring the cost effectiveness of extra care housing compared to residential and home care.

The resultant findings and recommendations make interesting reading and should stimulate further debate about how best to adopt a more strategic approach to developing extra care in Wales and building a stronger social ethos through public education.
