Tapped into Technology: The TAPPI Experience

This week, we were delighted to host a HAPPI Hour webinar titled, Tapped into Technology: The TAPPI Experience. Hot on the heels of International Day of Older Persons, this session explored the work by TAPPI pilot site Bield Housing Association in Scotland and partner Anthropos. It also considered research at the University of Portsmouth on Ambient Assisted Living and how to improved the utilisation of technology-enabled care at home.

TEC Voice

And as we enter the last few months of the TAPPI project, the September edition of TSA's Industry Magazine (opens new window), TEC Voice provides an update on our findings so far.

It’s vital for TAPPI to have life beyond this implementation programme. To ensure the value and legacy of the project, we’re working on a range of tools and resources and we’re speaking to leaders in housing, health and care systems about applying our learnings at scale.

Updates from our Testbeds:

Thank you to our customers and colleagues at Meadow Court in Worcester for inviting us to share our TAPPI findings and show off some of the technology we've been testing. It was a great opportunity to introduce some of our older residents to the possibilities of Technology Enabled Care and challenge the misconceptions that technology has to be complicated or invasive.

Retirement living charity wins top award for using technology to support healthy ageing (opens new window)

The ExtraCare Charitable Trust’s innovation team triumphed at the Senior Housing Awards on Tuesday 3rd October winning the ‘Best Use of Technology in Seniors Housing’ award.

The chosen submission showcased the work the innovation team have taken to instil technology into residents’ lives and focussed on Solihull Village’s innovation apartment.

Solihull Village, located on Poppy Island hosts the innovation apartment which gives residents the opportunity to trial technology in real life environments. In turn, the apartment has enabled ExtraCare to better understand customer expectations and the impact technology has on residents’ lives.

The apartment showcases not only smart tech devices and sensors that can help residents continue to live independently but features such as drop-down cupboards in the kitchen, a rise and fall hob, grab rails in the bathroom that can easily be retrofitted, better lighting and contrasts.
