Pannel Croft Village
Newtown, ExtraCare Charitable Trust

Description of Scheme

The Village provides spacious homes for affordable rent and sale, care and a host of community-based health and leisure facilities. Village facilities and the gym is accessible to the local older community. An outreach service also provides care and housing support to local older people.

Village homes have been carefully designed, combining traditional style with modern technology. The technology has been designed to support residents' independence, safety and mobility in their own homes without being obtrusive.

Where Is It?

Pannel Croft Village is the second ExtraCare Village to be created in Birmingham and opens fully in Spring 2013. The Village is located on a 6.5 acre site off Pannel Croft in the Newtown area of the City and is the result of a partnership between Birmingham City Council, Urban Living, The Homes and Communities Agency, The Department of Health and The ExtraCare Charitable Trust.

Residents Information

Village resident Linda Harewood is the first person to be offered a home at Pannel Croft Village, and her move to a rented apartment in the retirement village will free up much-needed local housing.

"A small apartment would be just right as I am struggling to manage with my arthritis," says Linda, who has lived in her three-bedroom council house for more than 40 years.

Linda, who will be attending with her daughter, is also interested in joining Village activities and likes the fact that care is available to support her.
