Following the Prime Minister’s statement on reforming adult social care and bringing forward the findings of the Casey Commission, this HAPPI Hour webinar explored a new architecture for ‘every decision about care is a decision about housing’.

Supported by Winckworth Sherwood solicitors, the session looked at how housing, adult social care and place intersect in a healthy neighbourhood.

We heard from Phil Holmes, President of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), on why improvement work so often starts in the wrong place, and what it takes to turn housing's role as an enabler of adult social care into practical action. Architect and urban researcher Elisa Pozo Menéndez shared a participatory urban strategy from Madrid that adapts public spaces so older people can reach the services around them. Bernadette Elder of Inspiring Housing then showed how a community-led, co-produced approach to place is supporting people to live well through the ages in Salford.
