Thank you. 'We' live our lives our way in places that work for us. 'They' (kind of a different species) 'need care'...'should downsize' etc etc. The sad thing is are all 'us' until the minute we are not - perhaps when we become unwell - then we get a shock!! We need to consider this from the perspective of our older selves I think - leads to very different and much less divisive thinking! 00:33:44 Alexandra Michelis: With rising demand and workforce pressures, how do you see housing providers and adult social care working differently together to maintain independence for older people? 00:34:29 Amanda Topps: Reacted to "A really good example of 'them' and 'us' when it comes to older people Phil. We work in teams like reablement which are adopting the neighbourhood approach, but are also specialised in housing and adaptations… sadly our profession is often spread too thin which means we don’t often have a seat at the table where strategic discussions happen. It's a wider public service issue (incorporating transport for example). It requires a "whole place" approach with people at the centre. It also requires a view of older and disabled people as assets to their community not burdens who need services. 01:08:39 Sarah-Jane Rowlands: Reacted to "The other point I was going to make about rurality is that "access" for rural areas isn't just a health, social care or housing issue. Where someone does not need personal care, prompts, reminders and virtual calls can be a great way to save money and allow people to be more independent at home. Also, things like Robopets, Just Checking systems can support ASC staff to "right-size" packages to care for the individual. 01:09:10 Alan Catterick: Reacted to "The other point I was going to make about rurality is that "access" for rural areas isn't just a health, social care or housing issue.
