Welcome to TAPPI Cast, our weekly update on the 'Technology for our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation' (TAPPI) project which aims to improve the way technology is used in housing and care for older people. Includes updates from our 6 Testbeds, Resources and Events of interest.

This weeks, we held the third TAPPI Steering Board meeting, bringing together a diverse group of UK and international experts. The meeting, conducted virtually, marked a significant milestone in advancing this innovative technology-enabled housing and care project.

We thank Professor Roy Sandbach OBE for his exceptional leadership as the chairperson of this board. His guidance ensured a comprehensive project update, and we are truly grateful for the invaluable and insightful input received from our dedicated board members, who brought their diverse expertise to the table.

Also, to celebrate Loneliness Awareness Week 2023 (12 – 18 June) we brought attention to a range of resources focusing on Loneliness, Technology and Later Living, including Rosemary’s TAPPI Personal Story (opens new window) in which she reflects on the loneliness that can accompany old age but also highlights how digital gadgets help her stay connected with her family.

Updates from our Testbeds:

Bield are continuing to use the momentum from the launch of our digital hub (the Bield Tech Hub) in May by showcasing this to staff, tenants and local groups. Digital literacy surveys are being completed by staff and tenants as they visit.

We also held a coffee morning at one of our developments in Glasgow to discuss the TAPPI project with staff and tenants to see if they were interested in participating in the trial.

Publications of interest:

'Support guaranteed: The roadmap to a national care service' (opens new window)

As reported last week, The Fabian Society published week a comprehensive paper which sets out a blueprint of what a National Care Service could look like and how it should be implemented.

It is backed up by 48 independent recommendations, several referring to housing with care and technology to support people live independently at home.
