Older Person’s Housing Group
The National Housing Federation is the trade body for housing associations across England, providing a voice for affordable housing. This includes delivery by some of our members of over 239,000 units of specialist social housing for older people.
In 2021 some of those members came together to form the Older Person’s Housing Group. The group’s key focus is to work with stakeholders and partner agencies, including national and local government, to identify and find solutions to the barriers and challenges faced by members in delivering new specialist social housing for older people.
Projections are that we need 38,000 new homes for rent for older people each year, far in excess of the annual average output of 8,000 seen over the last decade. This publications seeks to identify these barriers and challenges.
This publication also outlines the key asks of national and local government to enable their members to deliver much needed additional older person’s accommodation.
