Long-term funding of adult social care

This report from the Communities and Local Government Committee and the Health Committee (CLGHC) has been released ahead of the Government's Green Paper on care and support for older people scheduled for release this autumn.

This June 2018 report discusses the introduction of a Social Care Premium paid by people over the age of 40, "either as an additional element of National Insurance or with the premium paid into dedicated not-for-profit social insurance fund that people would be confident could only be used for social care".

There are further calls for the personal element of social care, such as help with washing, dressing and eating, to eventually be delivered free to everyone who needs it, however it also states accommodation costs should continue to be paid on a means-tested basis.
