Intermediate care fund

In December 2013, the Welsh Government announced announced a £50 million Intermediate Care Fund for 2014/2015. The Fund included £35m revenue from the Local Government budget and £15m capital from the Housing and Regeneration budget.

Bids were invited until 12:00pm Friday, 7 March 2014. However, it should be noted that is not intended to support extra-care housing but could fund reablement beds within retirement housing etc.

The Fund specifically to target strategic projects that will:

  • improve care co-ordination between social services, health and housing to prevent hospital admission and delayed discharge for older people;
  • promote and maximise independent living opportunities in response to referrals from health and care services;
  • support recovery and recuperation at home or through the provision of convalescence beds in the community setting

Details of the allocation arrangements have been unveiled by the Deputy Minister for Social Services, Gwenda Thomas. In particular, it has been allocated on the Regional Collaborative Footprint basis of Cardiff and Vale, Cwm Taf, Mid and West, North Wales, Western Bay and Gwent.
