Inequalities in healthcare and employment for people with a learning disability and autistic people
This report by the House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee has called for increased availability of community-based alternatives to inpatient settings for people with a learning disability and autistic people.
It notes that, further to the 2019 NHS Long Term Plan pledge to halve the number of people with a learning difficulty and autistic people in mental health inpatient care by March 2024 compared to 2015 levels, this target had been missed and the number of autistic people detained in mental health hospitals has increased.
While not housing specific, the MPs recommend additional resources to transform services, improve access to alternative provision, and call on government to explain how it plans to reduce that number, and by when.
