Draft dementia strategy for Wales 2026 to 2036

The Welsh Government has published a draft Dementia Strategy (2026- 2036) for public consultation.

Once signed off, it will replace the previous Dementia Action Plan, published in February 2018, and the subsequent Companion Document in 2021. The Strategy aims to improve dementia care and support across Wales, intending to provide the opportunity for people to have early engagement in the content of the document. The deadline for the response is 6 April 2026.

While the draft Strategy makes no mention of dementia-friendly communities or specialist housing for older people, it does recognise the importance of supportive environments and how the home, housing and technology can play a part, especially in relation to care delivery. Housing LIN Cymru members, therefore, may wish to respond and provide evidence and examples of good practice/schemes that provide people with dementia a home of their choice.
