Disabled Facilities Grants

Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) are a means-tested mandatory grant provided by local authorities to enable disabled people to continue to live in their own homes. They can be used for adaptations to give a person better freedom of movement into and around their home and/or to provide essential facilities within it.

The Welsh Government does not allocate resources specifically as they are funded out of unhypothecated General Capital Funding. It is the responsibility of local authorities to administer DFGs, to assess priorities and to ensure effective service delivery to meet local demand and statutory obligations.

The mandatory limit for the grant is £36,000, although local authorities can provide additional financial assistance where it exceeds this limit. Some local authorities may also provide assistance towards any contribution required under the means test arrangements.

More information about DFGs is provided on the Welsh Government website at the link below.
