Building Health into Homes: Practitioner Toolkit
Following publication of their recent strategic report with Foundations ‘Building health into homes’, the Royal College of Occupational Therapists have published two accompanying practical tools that set out how leaders across health, housing and social care should act on one of the biggest drivers of system pressure – people’s homes.
The RCOT practitioner toolkit supports occupational therapists in all practice settings to have earlier, preventative conversations about housing. The toolkit is part of our Building Health into Homes campaign, which shows how occupational therapy can unlock the connection between housing and health. It specifically includes
- an early housing conversation framework, with practical prompts and questions to help OTs discuss housing early and with confidence
- pen portraits from OTs working in housing, showing the range of roles, routes into practice and skills involved
- learning from lived experience, showing how earlier OT involvement could change outcomes and support a more preventative approach
- housing terminology and further reading, including links to external resources, design guides and publications available through the RCOT digital library.
And if you found this of interest, register to join our HAPPI Hour webinar on Tuesday, 21 July at 4pm when we will be exploring further with the RCOT team and other presenters on operationalising the recent resources.
