Summerfield Court
Stone,
Housing 21
Description of Scheme
The scheme has been designed to accommodate older people and will provide accessible accommodation suitable for people with a range of disabilities. The individual apartments will have a level access shower, underfloor gas central heating, a fitted kitchen with plumbing for a washing machine, non-slip flooring in the kitchen/bathroom and carpeting in the other areas.
The scheme is protected by CCTV and residents' apartments are also separated from the communal areas by security doors. Each property is linked to the door entry system so that residents can see, on their own TV who is ringing their bell before letting someone in.
Where Is It?
Summerfield Court is located in an established residential area of Stone, within easy reach of the town centre. Stone is an historic market town, named after a pile of stone, raised on the graves of princes killed in 665AD by their father King Wulfhere of Mercia, because of their conversion to Christianity.

Relevant Local Strategy
Stafford Borough Council's Housing Strategy 2008-2013 - Homes For Our Community states that the development priorities within Staffordshire for the next 5 years will include ensuring provision of Extra Care accommodation throughout the county.
The scheme supports the delivery of the Joint Commissioning priorities for older people, in particularly by contributing to the following priorities (Joint Commissioning Strategy Older People 2008/2011) :
- Ensure older people have access to a range of flexible and re-enabling packages of support to prevent inappropriate admission to hospital.
- Enhance provision of Supporting People "floating support" and the range of housing tenure options for older people, including increased extra care housing.
- Continue the strategic reduction of care homes provided by the County Council.
- Continue the work in progress to develop extra care services in each district.
The development of Summerfield Court initiated plans for an extension to the scheme. The planned Phase 2 development will create an additional 42 extra care units making the total number of units in Stone eighty four.
