Description of Scheme
The whole scheme is a new build development on a site on which an out of date community centre, church and rectory was previously situated. The current intention is for the scheme to be for older and vulnerable people but not to cater specifically for any client groups.
The apartments will be spread throughout the building across all floors and will be delivered as part of an intergenerational hub alongside a library and contact centre, community centre, café, enterprise space, nursery, hairdressers, health centre and pharmacy.
The building has been designed using modern materials that will ensure that the building is architecturally amazing whilst still reflecting the traditional aesthetics of surrounding buildings.
All apartments have been designed to meet the HAPPI principles and considerable thought is being given to how health and social care can be delivered more innovatively within this unique building to offer a service that will enhance the lives of older and vulnerable people choosing this way of living. Technology will also be used to ensure that a high level of service and support can be offered to all residents.
The scheme will be part of a building offering a variety of additional services as outlined above. All of the services will be open to the whole community thus ensuring that the extra care scheme is at the heart of the community. Throughout the build period THT is working closely with various partners to ensure true operational integration can be achieved and that all services are delivered in a joined up way to 'make every contact count.'
Where Is It?
This scheme is to be situated in Old Trafford in Manchester. Old Trafford predominantly consists of Victorian terraces but no one architectural style dominates throughout. Immediately adjacent to the proposed development are several streets of regenerated terraces, a mixture of high-rise flat blocks (recently regenerated) and 1960's council terraces. While there are green spaces within Old Trafford they are limited and poorly used.Key Information
