Description of Scheme

The scheme has been build to Eco Homes Excellent. Herefordshire Council had significant input in to the design requesting something unique for Hereford, resulting in a Winter Garden which can be used all year, the ground floor apartments to the rear of the scheme have conservatories and other apartments have Juliet balconies.

The building has been fully wired to accommodate telecare products at a later date if required, each apartment also has alarm cords connected to the main office. The scheme also incorporates an indoor bowling green, CCTV which can be viewed by all residents through their main television sets and intercom door access on the main front door.

The scheme offers a 'Friends groups' for those aged 55 or over of which there are currently 280 members. Becoming a member enables people the use of all the facilities at the scheme including the restaurant, café, I.T Suite etc, it also offers the chance to interact with residents and participate in any outdoor pursuits or trips arranged.

Where Is It?

The scheme is laid back from the main road with the surrounding area largely being that of private residential housing for families and older people. The scheme over looks allotments at the rear and public open space to the front which has been enhanced as part of the scheme, and is open and available to the surrounding community as well as residents.

Tesco express is adjacent to the scheme, a bus stop in front of the public open space, the city centre within 1 mile, the hospital within ½ mile, local pharmacy within ½ mile.

Relevant Local Strategy

The scheme has been operational since September 2008 and it has attracted significant interest with and amongst older persons currently wishing to live independently, providers of services for older persons.

There is an on-site personal care team with 24 hour staff presence, and assisted bathing is available.

The Rose Gardens has the staff and facilities available to cater for individuals with dementia and/or learning disabilities. Nursing care up to level 5 is also available.
