Richard Neve House
London, London Borough of Greenwich

Description of Scheme

All units are self contained and fully wheelchair accessible with level access shower facilities.

Where Is It?

The property was originally constructed in the early 1980s and is located at the western end of Plumstead High Street close to local shops, businesses and other amenities. Adjacent properties vary in age from Victorian terraces to a small estate of general needs Council stock contemporary with Richard Neve House.

The area is well served by public transport, both bus and train. The High Street is busy and there is a strong sense of community among local residents. There is also a sizeable area of industrial land to the North of the building from which it is separated by a main railway line.

Residents Information

"I find things have really improved since moving into Richard Neve House... I really feel like I am a part of the community here."

Relevant Local Strategy

This is a flagship scheme and was part of the remodelling of the councils sheltered blocks. This development contributes to the councils target of 250 Extra Care Sheltered Housing Units.

The scheme operates as a twin to an RSL Extra Care Sheltered Housing development nearby. All facilities are open to non-residents.

The South East London Housing Partnership (SELHP) Housing Strategy 2010 - 2014 (opens new window) has now been published. An Equalities Impact Assessment of the strategy has been carried out and an action plan has been produced.

Useful Local Statistics

The area has a substantial elderly population with strong local connections and demand for the accommodation from vulnerable and elderly residents is high. The remodelled flats and improved community facilities developed here will provide much needed accommodation and potentially a significant hub for the local community in an established building.
