Linskill Park
North Shields, Housing 21

Description of Scheme

Linskill Park is an extra care scheme developed in partnership with Housing 21 and North Tyneside MBC. It provides modern two-bedroom apartments for rent or shared ownership.

The site also has four purpose-built two bedroom bungalows that have been let to six people who have learning disabilities. There is an on-site care and support service team for the older people living in the main complex and a dedicated support team providing care to the people living in the bungalows. The use of assistive technology is being actively promoted throughout the scheme.

The scheme has its own Community Resource Centre and treatment room. The council is currently seeking a partner to provide new ways for older people to access community-based activities using their personal budgets. Linskill Trust, which runs a range of community-based activities and services, and other local residents groups were actively engaged throughout the development of the scheme. Linskill Park has become an important and thriving community resource because it has been built in an existing community, enabling residents to remain in the area close to families and friends.

Residents Information

"Since moving to Linskill Park, I have been very happy. The most important advantage is staying independent whilst having lots of company. I can go to bed every night feeling comfortable and secure. That means my family have peace of mind.

"Everyday I have someone to talk to and I can have a few laughs with the other residents. I enjoy having my lunch each day in the restaurant - the food is good and everyone is sociable."
