Description of Scheme

The building form is to provide a two storey block of 6 self-contained flats with shared access and a bungalow that complies to single storey wheelchair standard all to maximise independence.

The flats are for people with low level learning difficulties with visiting support. The bungalow is for a service user with learning disability who requires a sleep in support package.

The need for 1 bed self-contained accommodation has been identified. Some people with learning difficulties wish to move on from shared housing into a sole tenancy.

Care Services

The scheme is two miles away from Enable's offices where there are tenancy support workers. In addition next to the development there is a fully staffed three bed bungalow with 24 hour cover. Support would therefore be available in an emergency (in addition to a floating support package). Proposal to install lifeline buzzers in the units for telecare and emergency support.

Facilities

The scheme will be self-contained accommodation that supports independent living.

As part of each individual support package the focus for each service user is on maintaining independence and promoting a community presence. This may be by being part of local community groups and activities, going to local shops or attending health centres and leisure facilities.
