Hartfields Retirement Village
Hartlepool, The Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust

Description of Scheme

The overall treatment of the design is contemporary despite the use of traditional materials - bricks, render, cedar boarding, zinc cladding and glazed curtain walling.

The scheme meets ecohome standards good rating - this was partly achieved by incorporating a combined heat and power plant into the scheme as well as adopting timber frame construction and high insulation standards throughout.

The scheme has been built to lifetime homes standard and has received secure by design certification. The telecare system for the warden call utilises the latest tunstall telecom GSM technology.

There is an on-site Day Centre and GP Surgery. Some of the communal facilities are open to non-residents and we also operate a Friends of Hartfields scheme for people aged 50 plus. Membership to FOH is free of charge and members receive regular update on events and activities.

Where Is It?

Hartfields has been built in an area (Bishop Cuthbert) that has recently experienced extensive residential development. Most of the properties are less than 10 years old and are a mixture of apartments, town houses, semi-detached and detached.

Distance from town centre (miles): 2.5

Residents Information

"We chose to move to Hartfields because the accommodation is spacious and lift access makes it easy for us to get about. We love our apartment, where we can enjoy sitting on the balcony enjoying the garden views. We like the fact that you can have your privacy when you need it, but join in with the social life Hartfields provides, when you want to and the staff are very kind and helpful."

Charles and Nelly Smith, 238 Hartfields Manor
