Dean Road Extra Care Housing Scheme
Hampton,
Richmond Housing Partnership
Description of Scheme
The design of the building incorporates inclusive design principles specifically targeted at the predominant range of disabilities within the borough. This includes full telecare adaption, LRV ratios within decoration etc. Scheme benefits from solar heating panels on the roof.
Where Is It?
The site is within a relatively established residential suburban area within the London Borough of Richmond. The overarching style of the surrounding area is low rise flats and houses emanating from the 1950s and 1960s. The development is near to local facilities including a community school (with additional community facilities), and close proximity to grocery shopping facilities. Well served by bus routes.
Residents Information
'I love the building! I have a ground floor flat and am able to open the door onto the garden and say hello to the other residents. We also have bingo and quizzes weekly and paper delivery every day.
I know a lot of people at nearby care homes and am able to visit them easily. Residents are able to get out into town and to the local park to feed the ducks. We also have a shop next door with lovely owners so don't have to travel far for anything we may need.
Most of all I love spending time in the garden and sitting on the bench in the sunshine with my book. That's what life is all about!'

The Borough undertook an Older People's Supported Accommodation Review in 2008 which is available here (opens new window). In it there is a target for the delivery of a protocol for the letting and management of this scheme. There is also an action to consider re-modelling existing sheltered schemes into extra care housing and to pursue additional finding opportunities.
