Danbury Gardens
Humberstone,
Hanover
Description of Scheme
Danbury Gardens aims to provide a multi cultural service.
The scheme has been designed to promote safe and independent living in self contained accommodation. There is also a care team on site 24 hours a day contacted via an alarm system with SMART Technology features. Progressive privacy security allows the facility for common areas to be used by the community whilst ensuring safety of accommodation.
The Friends of Danbury Gardens Social Group, with the support of the LCC STAR (Supporting Tenants and Residents) team, are forging links with the local community, school etc. There is also a very active Volunteer programme in place with a gardening team on site; the shop is also run by a Learning Disabilities group.
Where Is It?
The scheme is built within a large area of new housing which consists of detached family homes, townhouses and terraced units. A number of new house builders are building in the area although development has virtually ceased during the last year due to the economic climate. It is also adjacent to existing 1950's Council Housing and allotments.
Distance from town centre: 4miles

Relevant Local Strategy
LCC are currently in the process of producing a final version of an Older Persons Housing Strategy. A draft was recently circulated for consultation, please view daft strategy via link on the LCC website. www.leicester.gov.uk/your-council--services/housing/about-us/older-persons-housing-strategy (opens new window)
Useful Local Statistics
The strategy highlights that LCC research indicates that 1,000 extra care units are needed to meet the needs of older people in Leicester (of which 480 should be social rented units). Further it is predicted that 20% of these units will need to be specialist accommodation for people with mental health needs and all units should reflect the ethnic diversity of older people in Leicester.
