Description of Scheme

Opened in May 2012, the Brookside Extra Care scheme caters for all levels of physical ability from the fully able to the very frail and provides specialist health, care and support services for older people with dementia. It offers a home, for as long as a resident's social care and health needs can be supported in that environment, by providing facilities which transcend disability backed up with flexible services which can be adapted to meet individual need.

Designed by Pozzoni Architects who specialise in designing for older people, along dementia principles, Brookside includes a fitness suite, beauty salon, day care centre, library/IT room, multi-purpose/cinema room, treatment rooms, music room and offices for NHS Central Lancashire.

The landscaping and gardens are also designed along dementia principles and reinforce the essential link between building and landscape and the therapeutic effects of well considered dementia design.

Where Is It?

Situated in an ideal position close to Ormskirk town centre, it's a short and easy walk to the shops and local recreation facilities. The three storey, 111 apartment development is also well served by public transport.

The surrounding countryside offers opportunities for walking. Brookside is just half a mile away from Ormskirk Station and 1 mile from Aughton Park Station, both have frequent services to Liverpool.
