Welcome to TAPPI Cast, our weekly update on the 'Technology for our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation' (TAPPI) project which aims to improve the way technology is used in housing and care for older people. Includes updates from our 6 Testbeds, Resources and Events of interest.

Updates from our Testbeds:

We've published two case studies (or personal stories) about the TAPPI Project.

The first is about Lynne Whistance (opens new window) who's driving the introduction and implementation of technology in our Care services. As Pobl’s Inclusion and Assistive Technology Officer, she advocates for the individuals we support, seeking creative, innovative solutions to any issues they face – with a view to offering better independence and quality of life:

'Assistive technology, people assume, is all technical and based on IT. It isn’t and it isn’t scary either. What the term means in reality is devices, gadgets, and systems that can be used to enable an individual.'

Next, we sat down with 90 year old Dennis (opens new window)to find out what technology means to him and how he feels he could benefit from it going forward...

'I keep telling as many elderly people as I can to stick with technology and learn. We’ll soon be relying on it completely – so I preach not only to older people but young people too!'

This week, ten TAPPI-funded tablets were delivered to Barratt Court in Skegness to further improve digital inclusion amongst our older customers. Our colleagues on the Communities and Customer Engagement Team will be working in Partnership with Age UK to improve the safety, independence and connectivity of those most at risk of being left behind as the world around us becomes increasingly digital.
