TAPPI Cast – 13 October 2023

Welcome to TAPPI Cast, our weekly update on the 'Technology for our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation' (TAPPI) project which aims to improve the way technology is used in housing and care for older people. Includes updates from our 6 Testbeds, Resources and Events of interest.

Did you know that next week is #GetOnlineWeek? TAPPI Phase 1 highlighted that while COVID-19 helped embed the use of technology into the lives of many, it also exacerbated the digital divide. At the same time, it provided us with an opportunity to strive for greater ‘digital integration’ across housing, health and care, putting the real needs of older adults and disabled people at the heart. That's why, next week, we'll celebrate #GetOnlineWeek (opens new window) as an opportunity to draw attention to these issues.

Updates from our Testbeds:

Housing provider and tenants work together to adapt and develop helpful tech

Featured in AT Today (opens new window) and Scottish Housing News (opens new window), Alice Bayne and Peter Paton, tenants at Bield’s West Port development in Linlithgow, have taken on the role of ‘Champions’ for its Technology for our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation (TAPPI) project, which aims to enable tenants to live at home independently for as long as possible.

Since late September, we started rolling out the TSA TEC training that was developed as part of consultation with the TAPPI testbeds to around 1000 adult social care staff, with over 400 staff completing the training to date.

The training modules are a light introduction to Technology Enabled Care (TEC) and support TAPPI testbeds to grow their knowledge and understanding of TEC.

Quote from experienced OT:

“I have enjoyed the videos and case studies, I love the virtual house, it was great to see what devices are out there and where they can be used in the home.”
