New Housing LIN guest blog on rethinking leadership and design to shape more adaptable homes
In this new Housing LIN guest blog, Gavin Wu, Architect at JDDK Architects, shares reflections on leadership in housing and architecture, exploring how policy shapes design and how personal experience of housing ageing needs sparked his interest.
Gavin shares how the Housing LIN's Future Leader programme introduced diverse speakers whose varied careers showed that leadership is learned, shaped by experience and role models, not fixed, and that different styles can all be valid in practice.
He also highlights how Appleby Blue Almshouse in Bermondsey, London, showed him that "expectation and policy are not always a constraint; it can be negotiated, interpreted, and improved when reason, empathy, and evidence are brought to the table."
