With December’s HAPPI Awareness Week fast approaching, momentum is building across the sector, especially following the success of last year’s HAPPI-inspired design winner, United St Saviour’s Charity’s Appleby Blue, which has gone on to secure multiple RIBA honours this year, including the prestigious Stirling Prize.

Running from 15 December, this year’s HAPPI Awareness Week will showcase new insights, resources and stories celebrating innovation in housing for an ageing population. Highlights include:

  • A guest Housing LIN blog from Stirling Prize–winning architect Stephen Witherford of Witherford Watson Mann, reflecting on the principles behind award-winning, age-friendly design.

  • Chaired by Lord Best, a strong speaker line-up for our upcoming HAPPI Hour webinar, “Designing for tomorrow: Future-proof, age-friendly homes”. Taking place on Tuesday, 16 December from 4pm - 5pm, this event will mark the final session in Housing LIN’s Autumn/Winter series. You can register here.

  • New signposting to Housing LIN’s dedicated HAPPI webpages, where readers can explore curated case studies, tools, and resources focused on ‘care-ready’ housing and age-friendly communities.

  • A call for organisations to share their HAPPI-inspired stories on social channels using #HAPPIweek.

Housing LIN is inviting submissions of HAPPI-influenced developments to feature throughout the week. Organisations are encouraged to share how their schemes expand housing choices for older people, highlight key design principles, or offer real-life examples of their impact on residents.

Short scheme descriptions (up to 60 words), including the name, location, and a high-resolution image, should be emailed to info@housinglin.org.uk by Monday, 8 December. These will form part of a curated HAPPI noticeboard to be published during the awareness week.

Housing LIN looks forward to wide participation in this year’s HAPPI Awareness Week and to celebrating the best of age-friendly design across the UK!
