HLINks - Catch up with the Housing LIN

Let's catch up!

Welcome to this week's HLINks, your housing with care e-bulletin | Friday, 14 July 2023

Welcome to #JeremyTalks

This week we shared a new Housing LIN blog by Jon Pritchard, Associate Director of Housing and Community Inclusion at Southern Health Trust, who shared insight on what is being done to address increasing levels of anxiety around the security, cost and sustainability of housing.

Tuesday's HAPPI Hour webinar on age-friendly social housing welcomed excellent presentations on cutting-edge research on naturally occuring retirement communities (NORCs) from Manchester Universities and new iconic extra care housing in London. Missed this? Rewatch here!

Then, on Wednesday, we held an invite-only roundtable with EE on the 2025 digital switchover for trade and professional bodies associated with specialist and supported housing. We heard from contributions from across the sector who highlighted the key actions required to ensure the sector is digitally prepared.

What else caught my interest:

Finally, we're always eager to hear your stories and receive your case studies and thought leadership on good practices. If you would like to contribute, email us at: comms@housinglin.org.uk.

Stay connected, stay curious!

With an interest in 'CollaborAGE', this HAPPI Hour welcomed academics from Manchester Universities to learn about their research project, "Co-creating age-friendly social housing: A collaborative approach to improving the experience of ageing in place”. We were also delighted to be joined by C&C/Aster who updated us on their age-friendly strategic developments, and United St Saviours Charity on their new almshouse provision in Southwark and wider links to the local community.

It was a production discussion to develop top tips and call to actions to minimise sector risks for operators and residents.

Despite the weather, we enjoyed exploring Somerset's Hauser & Wirth with its vibrant art exhibition and stunning perennial meadow designed by Piet Oudolf! We've come away feeling revitalised and with an idea or two for the garden!

SECTOR NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

The State of Health and Care of Older People in England 2023

Age uk report cover

A new report by Age UK documents how our health and care system is struggling, and too often failing, to meet the needs of our growing older population.

It calls for significant reform in community health and social care for older people, and the “hospital-orientated” approach abandoned, in order to stop the NHS buckling under the weight of an ageing population.
