People with dementia need well designed, beautiful buildings as we all do. They also need buildings that do not cause them unnecessary disability. To achieve this we need to know about the impairments of dementia and how to compensate for them as we would do for someone in a wheelchair when we would look at what the impairments are (cannot go upstairs for example) and we would design to compensate for this. We also need to acknowledge that everyone with dementia is different in every possible way: different age, different degrees of impairment, different backgrounds and life experience, different physical and sensory impairments, different attitudes, different tastes and so on.
