In a time of political division, social isolation, and stretched public services, the UK needs a new approach to connection, cohesion, and care.

"A Divided Kingdom: Steps Towards Intergenerational Solidarity" is Intergenerational England’s bold and timely response to these national challenges. This report lays out a vision for a fairer, more resilient society by embedding intergenerational practice across sectors, from education and housing, to health and workforce.

Developed in collaboration with sector leaders, academics, practitioners, and community voices, the report acts as a manifesto for long-term, systemic change, placing intergenerational connection at the heart of public policy, service design, and community development.

Jeremy Porteus, CEO of Housing LIN, said:

“Intergenerational housing is one of my 4 I’s of housing. The other three words are: inclusion, integration, innovation. In fact, for intergenerational housing to be impactful, it requires all these words to be aligned so that, whether building new homes, creating new towns or regenerating existing neighbourhoods, there are a range of accommodation choices for all generations. This report makes a powerful contribution to why intergenerational housing matters. Policy makers and place makers take note.”
