Six months after their recruitment as one of the six TAPPI testbeds, Southend Care gives us an update on their project in this short Q&A.

What initial challenges are you facing and how are they / will they be addressed?

Initial challenge is getting landlords/tenants onboard with new technology. By holding regular meetings to evidence they are not intrusive and will only capture information required that is in line with GDPR.

Person centred care packages – evidence based from sensor technology will enable us to give accurate and personal care packages. Ability to give evidence to landlords/commissioner/social workers/families/advocates.

What specific technologies or solutions are you testing, and what outcomes do you hope to achieve?

Sleep mats, various sensors that work across the personal environments to pick up movements and patterns of routines.

More personal centred/tailored support which is driven by the information gathered which would give a bespoke package of care, especially for tenants that have communication difficulties. This enables us to highlight any issues/concerns that they may not be able to communicate verbally.

Have you been able to test any of the 10 principles developed during the first phase of TAPPI? Which ones and what results are you seeing?

(opens new window)Cost effective: evidence gathered has shown tenants safety and quality of life has not been affected – technology has evidence cost saving on care packages.

Person-centred: sensors tailored for each individual needs.

Inclusive: enable us to gathered evidence that had not been known and has enabled us to provide better outcomes for their health.

What initial feedback have you had from tenants and staff as you begin implementation of the project?

The majority of our tenants are not able to understand what evidence we are gathering from the sensors.
