Designing homes and neighbourhoods post-COVID

This advice note by Ben Kochan in last month’s Placemaking Resource includes comments by the Housing LIN’s Jeremy Porteus on Lifestyle changes since lockdown, Drawing on ‘work ready’ HAPPI ideas, it highlights the need to design homes and neighbourhoods with more space for working and local services nearby.

“The need for generous natural lighting in homes has become even more important with the COVID virus lockdown,” said Jeremy Porteus, of the Housing Learning and Improvement Network (LIN). “Urban designers and architects need to consider the positioning of every room in a home, including the bedrooms, for good daylight,” he says. “Bedrooms have been used for working, as well as sleeping in.”
