The 100-year life: the role of housing, planning and design

This paper from the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) brings together the opinions of leading organisations from across the housing, care and ageing sector in order to consider challenges on good health and wellbeing in later life.

With Design Council and Centre for Ageing Better contributions, the paper outlines the conclusions under four key areas:

  • integrating services;
  • making finance more flexible;
  • reating age-friendly communities – including homes and the built environment; and
  • engaging with older people in designing new products from kitchens and bathrooms to transport.

The aim was to provide some space to collectively think and apply design principles to unlock new ideas to age-proof our society and communities.
