Abbeyfield Winnersh – understanding how people live with dementia in care environments

For the Housing LIN's Case Study no 148, Conrad Quast, Director at Edmund Williams Architects details the purpose-built Abbeyfield specialist care home at Woodward Close in Winnersh, Wokingham.

Written in cooperation with April Dobson, formerly the Head of Dementia Innovation at Abbeyfield Society, we learn how the care home has been designed specifically for people living with dementia. As a result of careful consideration in design and planning, Abbeyfield residents have access to the latest information and technologies for the treatment of dementia.

Following an 'exhaustive' list of challenges, the design of the care home has been carefully considered to allow residents to live independently for as long as possible.
