Where the heart is

Money and Mental Health Policy Institute is calling on government to make specific changes to the benefit system that would support people with mental health problems to stay in their homes.

This report explores why people with mental health problems are more likely to fall behind on their rent, and the consequences when they do. The research highlights how social landlords, as a major provider of housing to people experiencing mental health problems, currently respond to tenants in this situation, and makes recommendations to both housing providers and the government.

Also within this resource is a best practice checklist for social housing providers that proposes basic changes in processes to improve support to tenants experiencing mental health problems and rent arrears.
