Tips on how to reduce loneliness in later life cover

Each year, since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) continue to set the theme, organise, and host the Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW). The event has grown to become one of the biggest awareness weeks across the UK and globally.

In 2022, the theme was loneliness. This guide contains tips on how to look after your mental health when feeling lonely and how you can get involved in local and national initiatives to reduce loneliness.

They include:

  • Finding a green/blue space
  • Connecting online
  • Exercise
  • Social groups
  • Take up a hobby
  • Start or keep learning
  • Volunteer
  • Pet companionship
  • Find a routine
  • Talking to someone

People in later life helped create these tips through various focus groups held by the MHF.
