Summary of Guidance of the Affordable Homes Programme

Summary of Guidance of the Affordable Homes Programme cover sml

This paper by Winckworth Sherwood LLP and the Housing LIN gives a summary of the guidance relating to the Government’s ten year Social and Affordable Housing Programme. It has been written with supported housing and local authority commissioners in mind. It is not, however, a replacement for the guidance and any resources published by Homes England and the Greater London Authority.

Read the latest government capital grant funding arrangements for affordable and social homes in England, with a focus on how these programmes aim to facilitate the building of specialist and supported housing.

It does not include information on other sources of capital funding for affordable specialist and supported housing such as the Department of Health and Social Care’s Care and Support Specialised Housing Fund (DHSC).

Jeremy Porteus, CEO of Housing LIN, said:

If we are going to see the significant growth in affordable, purpose-built social housing for older people, as advocated by the Older People’s Housing Taskforce, the investment levers that Homes England and the GLA have at their disposal must be central to fulfilling this objective. This joint briefing has therefore been specifically written through the lens of housing in later life to illuminate the key passages in the SAHP guidelines on accessing capital to deliver a mix of age-friendly, HAPPI-inspired homes and communities. We encourage the housebuilding sector in their submissions to recognise the need for a better range of good quality housing for an ageing population.
