Practical Guides for Creating Successful New Communities: creating health-promoting environments
This practical guide from the Town and Country Planning Association (TPCA) suggests ideas on how new Garden Cities should be designed, in order to promote the health of their inhabitants.
Bringing together and supplementing the wealth of existing guidance on creating healthy and active environments, this guide informs the planning of new Garden Cities or new large-scale urban extensions, or the regeneration of existing communities.
As well as building on each of the Garden City principles, but it specifically addresses:
- "for health and wellbeing needs, considerations under the ‘beautifully and imaginatively designed homes with gardens, combining the best of town and country to create healthy communities’ principle; and
- for health and care infrastructure needs, considerations under the ‘strong cultural, recreational and shopping facilities in walkable, vibrant, sociable neighbourhoods’ principle."
