This report from the National Audit Office puts personalised commission in adult social care under the spotlight.
Some authorities have transformed their care and support processes in order to:
- Ration their resources fairly
- Share information about a broad range of local services
- Monitor and manage spending on personal budgets efficiently.
Whilst others are finding personalising commissioning a challenge as:
- They seek to save money
- Are constrained in how they can personalise care by the need to reduce overall spending budget by 2020.
The Department of Health and its partners need to gain a better understanding of the different ways to commission personalised services for users, and how these lead to improvements in user outcomes, especially when money is tight.
